GORT & KLAATU
A Close Encounter in Geneseo
Step into Dimension G at the Geneseo City Museum, where the steel figures of Gort and Klaatu welcome visitors to Kansas’s UFO Capital. Inspired by the beloved 1951 science-fiction film The Day the Earth Stood Still, these larger-than-life sculptures bring a touch of vintage space-age wonder to one of Rice County’s most unexpected destinations.

Is it to SCI-FI for You?
Built for the UFO Capital of Kansas
The Gort and Klaatu sculptures were created by brothers Bruce and Brent Bitter of B&B Metal Arts in Hoisington. Known for their skill in steel and metal sculpture, the artists carefully studied the original film characters to capture their distinctive look and turn a classic sci-fi pairing into a memorable Kansas landmark.
Installed at the Geneseo City Museum in time for the 2024 Dimension G Festival and Kansas UFO Day, the sculptures were made possible through a Kansas Tourism Attraction Development grant and local support. Their arrival gave visitors another photo-worthy reason to stop in Geneseo, where a love of history, imagination, and the unknown comes together in a wonderfully unusual way.
Explore the Mystery of Dimension G
Gort and Klaatu are part of a larger otherworldly experience at the Geneseo City Museum. Nearby, visitors can see the mysterious Roswell Compass and explore a remarkable UFO collection that includes photographs, clippings, artifacts, and pop-culture pieces gathered over decades by local historian Dr. Elmer Janzen.
Plan your visit around the annual Dimension G Festival, a celebration of UFO lore, science fiction, and small-town creativity that has included a UFO parade and themed activities. Whether you are a lifelong sci-fi fan or simply enjoy a roadside attraction with a story, Geneseo invites you to look up, ask “what if?”, and discover something truly out of this world.
